UPDATE: Commissioner Quallo to step down within days

Sources within the Police High Command have told Loop News that Commissioner of Police, George Quallo, is to step down from that position in the first week of February.

News of the development comes just two weeks after the commissioner, in an interview with Loop News, said he would be leaving the office sooner, rather than later, an indication that he could be stepping down before he was slated to retire in August.

Deputy Commissioner Clifford Blake is tipped to fill the position upon Quallo’s departure.

Sources have told Loop News that the spiralling crime problem and the embarrassing traffic gridlock on the Palisadoes Road on New Year’s Day were some of the issues that resulted in members of Government losing confidence in the 59-year-old commissioner.
