Two suspects held in connection with $13m ATM robberies

The police have detained two men for reportedly stealing over $13 million from two automated teller machines (ATMs) in two parishes on January 5.

Police report that the two men, believed to be relatives, were held during a recent operation in St Ann.

Reports from detectives in Ocho Rios are that, in the first week of January, three men went to an ATM in St Ann's Bay and spray-painted the security cameras and reportedly stole $9.2m after entering a security code.

Allegations are that the men then visited another ATM machine in Annotto Bay, St Mary, where they stole an additional $4.5m.

Police acting on information went to the house of a security guard, who they believed was a suspect in the robbery.

Police said while at the house they carried out a search and recovered $4.1m from two safes that were at the mentioned premises.

The security guard and his relative, whose names were not released pending further investigations, were taken into custody.
