Two St Elizabeth men arrested for cocaine find at Sangster airport
Two St Elizabeth men were arrested on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following the seizure of four and half pounds of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay, St James on Tuesday afternoon.
The street value of the drugs is nearly $700,000.
Reports are that about 2:00 p.m., during an anti-narcotics operation, members of the Narcotics Division and the Jamaica Customs Contraband Enforcement Team carried out a search of a shipment of food items destined to the United Kingdom.
During the search, the cocaine was found wrapped in transparent plastic concealed in eight cans, which were labelled as food items.
The two men from the breadbasket parish were subsequently arrested in relation to the find.
The narcotics police are investigating the incident.
