Two pedestrians perish in St Elizabeth crash

The number of persons to have died in motor vehicle crashes on the roadways in St Elizabeth this year has risen to 19, this after two men were mowed down by a motorcar in Black River on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Anthony Bowes of Black River, and 54-year-old Dalton Phillips of St Thomas.

Preliminary reports indicated that sometime after 5:00 p.m., the men were walking along Central Road in Black River when the driver of a motorcar lost control of the vehicle, which hit the two pedestrians.

The vehicle then crashed into a wall.

Bowes and Phillips were assisted to the hospital, where they were both pronounced dead.

The driver of the motorcar, who was treated for minor injuries, has since been warned for prosecution.

The St Elizabeth police are probing the incident.
