Two men killed during alleged shootout with police in Central Village

Two men were shot dead during an alleged shootout with the police in the 'Zambia' section of Central Village, St Catherine on Wednesday.

The identities of the deceased have not been released.

Reports are that about 10.45 am, the police were on foot patrol in the area when gunmen opened fire at them. The officers reportedly took evasive action and returned fire.

When the shooting subsided, two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were later pronounced dead at hospital.

Meanwhile, the police reported that two firearms were also recovered following the shootings.

The incident follows Monday's gun attack in which three people, including two brothers in their early 20s, were shot dead by gunmen in two separate incidents in Central Village.

A curfew has been in place in sections of the community since Saturday.
