Two men beaten, hacked to death hours apart in St Elizabeth

A 34-year-old man was chased and beaten to death by members of an angry mob in St Elizabeth on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Fabian Johnson, a labourer of the Holland Village, St Elizabeth.

Sources from the community reported that about 3.20 am, Johnson was attacked by a group of persons in the community after information began to circulate that he had attacked a woman who is said to be of unsound mind.

Reports are that after the attack on Johnson, the police were called to the area and his body was found with wounds to his head and other parts of his body.

And while carrying out their investigations in that area hours later, the police were called to Leeds district in the parish, where a 55-year-old man was attacked and chopped to death by unknown assailants.

The deceased has been identified as Delmas Williams of  Leeds district.

Reports are that residents stumbled on the body of Williams along the roadside at about 7am, and called the police.

Investigators have not disclosed a motive behind the attack, but there are no reports so far that the attacks were linked.
