Two dead in Melrose Hill bypass crash in Manchester

Two men perished in a motor vehicle crash on the Melrose Hill Bypass road which links Porus with Williamsfield in Manchester, on Wednesday afternoon.

The four-vehicle crash left at least six other persons nursing injuries.

Police reports were that about 4:20 p.m., a truck laden with sand was descending the Melrose bypass towards Porus when it got out of control and hit another truck.

The truck carrying the sand reportedly flipped and fell on a Toyota minivan carrying passengers, as well as a Toyota SUV.

Two men whose names were not ascertained, were crushed in the process, and died on the spot. Six others were taken to hospital.

Following the accident, traffic was diverted on to the old road on Melrose Hill road, resulting on hours of dislocation for many motorists.
