Trini actress Lorraine Toussaint to star in Netflix series

Award-winning Trinidad and Tobago-born actress, Lorraine Toussaint, is set to star in a new Netflix series, scheduled for release later this year.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, a series based on the ‘80s cartoon, is the story of an orphan named Adora, (the twin sister of Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man) who leaves behind her former life in the evil Horde when she discovers a magic sword that transforms her into the mythical warrior princess She-Ra. Along the way, she finds a new family in the Rebellion as she unites a group of magical princesses in the ultimate fight against evil.

Toussaint will lend her voice to the character Shadow Weaver.

The series will also feature the voices of Grey’s Anatomy alum Sandra Oh,  black-ish‘s Marcus Scribner, Dancing With the Stars champ Jordan Fisher, and Young & Hungry‘s Aimee Carrero.

This isn't the first Netflix series Toussaint has starred in. In 2014, she played the role of Yvonne "Vee" Parker, the main antagonist in the second season of the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black, for which she received critical acclaim and a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She's also starred in other major series including Lifetime's Any Day Now, Ugly Betty, Friday Night Lights, The Fosters, and co-starred in the historical drama, Selma
