Former T&T footballer Jlloyd Samuel killed in UK car crash

Jlloyd Samuel, who was born in San Fernando, played for Aston Villa Football Club in the UK from 1999-2007.

Former Trinidad and Tobago footballer and Aston Villa FC defender, Jlloyd Samuel was killed in a car accident in the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

Reports are that Samuel was returning home after dropping his kids off to school and collided with an oncoming vehicle. His vehicle caught fire and his body was discovered burnt.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association confirmed Samuel's death via a statement this morning. 

"We've received some terrible news that former National defender and Ex-Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers player Jlloyd Samuel died in a car crash this morning in England," the association said.

It added: "The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association and his former national teammates at this time extends deepest condolences to his family members both in the UK and here in Trinidad and Tobago."

Samuel, who was born in San Fernando, played for Aston Villa Football Club in the UK from 1999-2007. In 2012 he moved over to Iranian football club Esteghal.

Samuel celebrated his 37th birthday in March this year.
