Triathlete Llori Sharpe selected for specialized development programme

National top-ranked triathlete Llori Sharpe is among a small batch of Caribbean athletes selected to participate in the UWI-CDB-Regional Emerging Athlete Development Programme in Barbados next month.

The programme will take place at the Cave Hill campus from June 10-16 with a follow-up scheduled for October 1-5.

Sharpe tested highly during the evaluation process that helped determine the qualified athletes who were selected from the 17 countries across the region. As a result of her “immense talent and potential”, she was ranked within the top two positions and hence, selected for the READ programme.

Under the programme, the athletes, in the presence of their respective coaches, will undergo a series of tests - a general health screening, musculoskeletal screening to look for existing or potential injuries, psychological screening, sports physiology, fitness testing, and a biomechanical assessment.

Following the screening, interventions and recommendations will be made to assist in improving areas in which the athlete is deficient, including remedial training opportunities.

All three athletes will receive support in the form of apparel and sporting equipment during the programme.
