Trainer Gary Subratie stars at Caymanas Park with feature race double

Trainer Gary Subratie on Saturday landed both sections of the divided Jamaica Racehorse Trainers Association feature event with K D FLYER and PLEASANT SECRET.

Subratie's runners both won at odds of 2-1 with apprentice riders, K D FLYER partnered by Dane Dawkins and Anthony Thomas aboard PLEASANT SECRET.

Meanwhile, title-chasing Anthony Nunes saddled two winners, 21-1 longshot KANALOA and 9-5 favourite DONTAE, keeping alive his hopes of catching rival Wayne DaCosta in the trainers' championship.

DaCosta won his only race of the afternoon with GRANITE after which his favourites, UNCLE WAL and BRANDY, lost races in contrasting fashion.

UNCLE WAL led the second event but failed to stay a mile and finished last. BRANDY, however, was beaten in a driving finish by 3-1 chance MARQUESAS in the 1200-metre Dye Job Sprint for two-year-olds.

GRANITE's victory and BRANDY's second-place run earned DaCosta $600,600 whereas Nunes reduced the $6.1m deficit behind the champion trainer by $673,800,  picking up $1,274,450 with his two winners, plus a pair of second-place finishes with BRUCE WAYNE and ICTUS, in addition to a third-place run with HELLO LADY.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
