Tourism brands staying alive with social media campaigns
Social media has been an integral part of destination marketing but in the time of COVID-19 with borders locked down and air and cruise lines grounded, it has become the primary tool for tourist boards.
Like their counterparts all over the world, Caribbean tourist boards are using various social media campaigns to inspire and remind travelers of what they have to offer.
Below are some campaigns regional tourism bodies are running on social media.

The Grenada Tourism Authority kicked off a digital campaign called #GrenadaDreaming on April 6. The essence of the campaign is to share evocative images of the destination to inspire consumers to visit Grenada in the future: to ‘dream today and travel tomorrow’. The campaign shows various sites and experiences on the island reminding us all of the beauty of the Spice Isle.
Saint Lucia Inspires
The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) through its website www.stlucia.org and Facebook platform @travelSaintLucia will take viewers and readers on a topical, informative and entertaining destination experience through its “Saint Lucia Inspires” Blog Series. The “Saint Lucia Inspires” Series launched on April 20 with a feature by renowned Saint Lucian Journalist and Writer-Stan Bishop, dubbed Choiseul the Cradle of Craft. Saint Lucia Inspires will continue with a bi-monthly Monday-blog that will place special highlights on the island’s villages, heroes, offerings and culture.
7 Minutes in Saint Lucia
Launched on March 26, the 7 Minutes in Saint Lucia Series is a Live Instagram virtual experience on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am ECT on @travelSaintLucia. “By creating the ‘7 Minutes in Saint Lucia’ social media series, our aim is to virtually share Saint Lucian culture and natural beauty in an authentic way while people stay safe at home, to keep in touch with future visitors and our valued travel agents -- hopefully providing a bright spot in their days," said Minister of Tourism Dominic Fedee.
Antigua and Barbuda Messages in the Sand
Launched by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, the ‘Messages in the Sand’ imagery aims to bring a slice of Antigua and Barbuda’s tranquillity to everyone’s home. The first message in the sand, “Stay Safe” was written on the shore of Antigua’s breathtaking Fort James beach on Monday, March 30 and revealed on Tuesday, March 31. Messages appear across social media, weekly on Mondays. People can get involved by sending suggestions for messages to be written in the sand, to the Tourism Authority’s social media platforms. To do so, visit the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s social media pages on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Reply to the ‘Messages in the Sand’ post with your suggestion for a ‘Message in the Sand’, sending motivational affirmations to loved ones, and strangers.
