Champion trainer Anthony Nunes saddles the big favourite Toona Ciliata in the eight race at Caymanas Park on Saturday, July 11, 2020.

TOONA CILIATA, a winner of two open allowance races in four months, last beating the grade on the eve of the Caymanas Park COVID-19 shutdown on March 17, returns to the level on Saturday, facing six rivals, including three stablemates - BRUCE WAYNE, GRAYDON, and PRINCE CHARLES.

A grade-one rated horse, who was second to SHE’S A MANEATER in last year’s Superstakes, followed by a third-place run in the Diamond Mile and two open allowance victories, TOONA CILIATA carries topweight 130lb in the six-and-a-half furlong event.

Despite carrying the new topweight, four-year-old TOONA CILIATA is a mere four pounds heavier than March 17 when he had dismissed CRIMSON and SENTIENT at seven and a half furlongs.

TOONA CILIATA should outclass and outstay speedsters PATRIARCH and CHACE THE GREAT whereas SUPERLUMINAL, the game eight-year-old, a tough ride, is being partnered by female apprentice Tamika Lawrence, with no whip declared.

Leading rider Dane Nelson is aboard TOONA CILIATA for champion Anthony Nunes, who is coasting on a $5m lead atop the standings ahead of Wayne DaCosta, who he dethroned last year for his first trainers’ title.

TOONA CILIATA will go to post as a heavy favourite in the eighth of 11 races scheduled on the opening day of back-to-back meets.

First post is noon.
