Toona Ciliata among 5 winners for jockey Dane Nelson
Canada-based Dane Nelson rode five winners on Wednesday's 11-race card at Caymanas Park, including an armchair ride aboard TOONA CILIATA in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial.
TOONA CILIATA, trained by Anthony Nunes, in whose father's honour the race is run annually, joined stablemate HOUDINI'S MAGIC down the backstretch and won easily by five and three quarter lengths.
TOONA CILIATA was down in class among open allowance horses after finishing second in the grade-one Superstakes and third in the Diamond Mile behind SHE'S A MANEATER and STRANGER DANGER.
Trainer Wayne DaCosta's pair, SUMMER SUN and HOVER CRAFT, finished second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nunes combine with Nelson to land the sixth race with ROHAN KABIR, completing a three-timer with SIR FREDRICK in the 11th, earning $1.4m in stakes, extending his lead to $5.7m ahead of reigning champion DaCosta.
Nelson won four consecutive races, the fourth to seventh, aboard A SEH SOUP, ROYAL VIBES, ROHAN KABIR and OKAHUMPA, respectively, before completing his five-timer with TOONA CILIATA.
Racing continues at Caymamas Park on Saturday.
