Three-year-olds take spotlight at Caymanas Park today
Traditional three-year-old twin events, the Mercury Sprint, for colts and geldings, and the fillies-only Eight Thirty Sprint, are the feature races on Saturday’s 11-race card at Caymanas Park, five-furlong straight contests in the build-up to the classic season, which opens with April’s 1000 and 2000 Guineas.
Well-bred first-timers in the Mercury Sprint include Ian Parsard’s HALLS OF JUSTICE and Philip Feanny’s ADORATION.
HALLS OF JUSTICE, to be partnered by Dane Dawkins, has been sparkling at exercise, galloping half-miles from the gate in 46.2 and 46.3, pulled up in 1:02.3 and 1:02.1, respectively.
ADORATION, who will have veteran Ian Spence up, has also been showing good form at exercise, three consecutive bullet works of 35.2 on the round course, afterwards galloping 1:02.3 for five furlongs in the company of stablemate CRYPTOCURRENCY.
The Eight Thirty Sprint also has a smart-looking debutant, Wayne DaCosta’s MAKE UP ARTIST with Omar Walker astride. MAKE UP ARTIST’s main threat is the quick and experienced NATIVE GOLD.
MAKE UP ARTIST has been blazing in the mornings, five furlongs round in 1:00.4, January 11, followed by five and a half furlongs in 1:07.0 a week later.
However, NATIVE GOLD, who is drawn well on the outside with Paul Francis, recently lost by a length and a half to at five furlongs round and led to the last half-furlong, going six, caught by the winner, GLOCK, on New Year’s Day.
The Mercury and Eight Thirty Sprint co-features will be run as third and fourth races with post times of 12:40 and 1:15 pm, respectively. First post is 11:40 am.
