Three suspects in custody in relation to brazen May Pen robbery

The Clarendon police have taken three suspects into custody following the robbery at a supermarket in Guinep Tree, May Pen, and Clarendon on Sunday, May 26

The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the police’s information arm, said the men were picked up during an operation in the parish at about 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 31.

Reports are that about 9:30 a.m. last Sunday, police officers were engaged in a confrontation with gunmen after the lawmen approached a supermarket that was being robbed.

At the end of a prolonged gun battle and the subsequent escape by the heavily-armed hoodlums, with the use of hostages that were taken, the policer recovered several items after some of the robbers were intercepted.

The items which were seized by the police included a motor vehicle, cash, a firearm and a quantity of ammunition.

Two police officers were shot and injured during the standoff at Guinep Tree.
