Three men held in Westmoreland ganja bust
Three men, including one Jamaican and two Haitian nationals, were nabbed on Thursday after the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard seized 765 pounds of compressed marijuana.
The drug was seized after the Coast Guard intercepted a vessel off the coast of Westmoreland.
According to the Coast Guard, a patrol team was conducting routine patrols off the coast of Westmoreland when they spotted a blue, motor-vessel acting in a suspicious manner.
The Coast Guard team approached the vessel and the men were spotted throwing a number of packages overboard.
Five packages that were thrown overboard were recovered while another 11 packages were found aboard the vessel during a search.
The Coast Guard said several containers with over 150 gallons of fuel were also seized.
The men have been handed over to the narcotics police for processing, while the marijuana was weighed and similarly processed,” the JDF Coast Guard said.
Police believe that the ganja, which was seized was part of the illicit drugs-for-guns trade between Jamaica and Haiti.
