Three-gun haul, including a rifle, in St Andrew on Sunday

Three illegal guns, including a rifle, were seized by the police in separate operations in St Andrew on Sunday, and three men and a woman were arrested in connection with one of the seizures.

The woman and the three men were held in connection with the seizure of a handgun and several rounds of ammunition on King Weston Road in Lawrence Tavern.

Reports are that about 6.45 am, a joint police/military team conducted a check point operation along the roadway, during which the driver of a Toyota Axio motorcar was ordered to pull over.

The car and its occupants were searched and a Smith and Wesson .40 pistol fitted with a magazine containing seven .40 cartridges were reportedly found in a bag.

The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and the vehicle was seized. The four remain in custody as the Lawrence Tavern police continue their investigation into the incident.

Hours later, police personnel from the Papine and Red Hill police stations seized two other firearms in separate incidents.

About 1 pm, the Papine police conducted an operation on Premix Road, during which a premises was searched and a Calico MP51 9mm rifle with a magazine containing 24 rounds of ammunition was seized.

No one was arrested in relation to the seizure.

Just minutes later, at about 1.15 pm, the Red Hills police carried out an operation at an unfinished house in Belvedere, and found a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition,which was seized.

As was the case at Premix road, no one was arrested in relation to the seizure in Belvedere.

Investigations continue.
