Teenager dies after being arrested in St James
A male teenager who was detained by security personnel within the ongoing state of emergency in St James last week, collapsed and later died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Tajay Tomlinson of Providence Heights, Montego Bay, St James.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which has taken an interest in the matter, is awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death of the detainee.
Tomlinson was picked up by security personnel, reportedly on suspicion of having committed a robbery on Monday, July 29.
According to initial reports, he complained of feeling unwell and became unconscious while in his cell at the Freeport Police Station.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
INDECOM is continuing its investigations into the development.
At the time of his death, Tomlinson was waiting to be placed on an identification parade.
