Volunteers from Supreme Ventures Limited brought fun and energy to Read Across Jamaica Day at Greenwich Primary School on Tuesday, May 7.

A team comprising senior managers from the Corporate office and draw operations visited the Trench Town-based primary school armed with colourful and engaging books to help engender a love for learning and literacy in the young students.

Vice President, Marketing, Communication and Sponsorship, Gail Abrahams said the activity was in line with the gaming company’s focus on children and would form part of their outreach calendar going forward.

“Children are at the core of our CSR activities, so it was only natural to participate in a day focused on making reading fun again. We are glad we got a chance to see first-hand how important it is to nurture the love for reading and learning in Jamaica’s children. The response was overwhelming, the children were just as excited as we were and we got the chance to reinforce the importance of recreational reading,”

In addition to reading to grades one through to five, the SVL team donated all the books read along with several others and learning charts to the school’s literacy programme.

Chairman of the School board, Andre Cooke said the donation would boost the school’s effort to focus on literacy as a means of improving the students’ overall academic performance.

“We don’t refuse books, our focus on literacy has helped us greatly in improving the school’s academic profile over the past year and this will help us continue on this path,” he said.

Meanwhile, a team from Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited, the Caymanas Park-based subsidiary of SVL, also participated in Read Across Jamaica Day by visiting the Gregory Park Primary School.

The team read to children from the class and joined the school body for a special devotion that included a Little Red Riding Hood play by the students.
