Suspected Portmore serial rapist charged, but not for sex offences

The man who was held in relation to a series of rapes in Portmore, St Catherine last week has been slapped with a number of charges, but all are unrelated to sexual offences.

Chaddane Harris, 27, was held in the large, dormitory St Catherine community after there were multiple reports of a series of rape incidents over a period of several months.

However, he has so far been charged with wounding with intent, burglary and larceny, after he was reportedly pointed out on an identification parade last Saturday.

Harris is accused of the May 8 housebreaking and robbery in which he reportedly forced his way into the home of a female, and attacked and stabbed her multiple times before robbing the dwelling.

In relation to the rape reports, the police are awaiting the results of DNA testing before, where applicable, laying additional charges against Harris.
