Leading trainer Anthony Nunes saddles ante-post favourite Supreme Soul in the 10-furlong Governor's Cup.

Leading trainer Anthony Nunes’ SUPREME SOUL is allowing stablemate EARN YOUR STRIPES nine pounds in Saturday’s 10-furlong Governor’s Cup at Caymanas Park, going for a sixth career win after landing last month’s 2000 Guineas at a mile.

Similar to the Guineas, EARN YOUR STRIPE has been beating SUPREME SOUL in the mornings. However,  SUPREME SOUL has proven that he is able to stalk a strong pace and still have enough in reserve to find an extra gear in the stretch run, being a half-brother to 2016 Governor’s Cup winner, BIGDADDYKOOL.

EARN YOUR STRIPES finished fifth in the Guineas after straightening third, giving way to RUN THATCHER RUN and stablemate TOONA CILIATA. SUPREME SOUL had turned for home fifth and ran past his stablemates to pounce on RUN THATCHER RUN.

Nunes could again sweep the top two places after his Guineas exacta with SUPREME SOUL and TOONA CILIATA, extending his $10m advantage over champion Wayne DaCosta, whose Jamaica Oaks winner, PRINCESS ANNIE, will have 121lb, giving her very little chance against the colts and geldings in the nine-horse field.

Shane Ellis is aboard SUPREME SOUL whereas champion jockey Anthony Thomas will partner EARN YOUR STRIPES. The Governor’s Cup has a winner’s purse of $1.62m and runs off at 4:55 p.m. as the ninth of 10 races scheduled.

First post is 12:10 p.m.
