A man was shot and killed along Old Harbour Road in St Catherine at about 11am on Sunday.

“We don’t have the identity of the man who was killed, as crime scene investigators are still on the scene collecting evidence," a representative of the police’s Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) told Loop News reporter Claude Mills in mid-afternoon.

“Residents heard loud explosions and when checks were made, a body was discovered and the police were summoned,” added the CCU representative.

Official figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that the number of murders that were recorded in Jamaica up to October 12 was 1,026 - 29 more than the 997 homicides that were recorded for the corresponding period last year.

The increase comes despite states of public emergency (SOE) in the St Andrew South Police Division, Clarendon, St Catherine and the western parishes of St James, Westmoreland and Hanover.
