St Jago High achieved one of their most satisfying victories in the preliminary round of the 2019 ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup on Friday to secure the 14th and final second-round automatic qualifying spot.

The Spanish Town-based school won 2-1 at Haile Selassie High in their rescheduled fixture on the final matchday of the preliminary round to secure top spot in Group A after entering the day in third place.

St Jago High finished the preliminary round with 20 points from their 10 matches, just one ahead of second-place Holy Trinity High and third-place Cumberland High, who had both completed their preliminary round fixture ahead of the day.

Holy Trinity High, which were leading the group courtesy of goal difference ahead of Cumberland High, had to settle for second place.

The result eliminated Cumberland High from the competition as the 19 points tallied failed to qualify them as one of the two best third-place teams.

Mona High with 22 points from Group D and Vauxhall with 23 points from Group E were confirmed as the two best third-place teams.

The 16 second-round qualifiers are:

GROUP A
