St Catherine man on death by dangerous driving rap in Trelawny

A St Catherine man has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving following a motor vehicle accident which resulted in the death of 54-year-old taxi operator, Norman Scott, and 37-year-old security guard, Shane Ferrier, in Trelawny last month.

The accused has been identified as Martin Ellis of a St Catherine address.

Reports are that on Wednesday, January 31, at about 7:00 p.m., Scott was driving his blue Toyota Wish motorcar along the Salt Marsh main road in Trelawny, when a truck, which was travelling in the opposite direction, overtook a line of vehicles and slammed into the car.

The driver and passenger in the car sustained multiple injuries and had to be cut from the mangled wreckage by firefighters. The injured men were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Ellis, who drove the truck, was taken into custody and subsequently charged.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Falmouth Parish Court later this week.
