St Ann woman pleads guilty to killing hubby

A St Ann woman who was charged with murder four years ago in connection with the stabbing death of her common-law husband in Mammee Bay in the parish, has pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter.

Erica Beamer pleaded guilty to killing 39-year-old David Folkes of Greenwich Acres, St Ann, when she appeared in the St Ann Circuit Court last week.

She is to be sentenced later this month by High Court Judge, Justice Martin Gayle.

Reports from the St Ann’s Bay police were that on Monday, August 24, 2015, at about 2am, Folkes and Beamer had a dispute at their home in Greenwich Acres. During the altercation, she reportedly stabbed him.

He was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Beamer then fled the scene, but turned herself over to the St James police two days later.

She was handed over the St Ann police, and was subsequently charged.
