A policeman assigned to the Brown's Town Police Station in St Ann is counting his blessings after he jumped from his motorcar before it burst into flames following a collision with a parked truck in Salem, Runaway Bay late Monday night.

Reports are that about 11:45 pm, the officer was driving his Toyota Mark X motorcar from St Ann's Bay towards Discovery Bay, when he lost control of the vehicle which slammed into a parked hardware truck.

The constable luckily managed to jump from the vehicle before it burst into flames.

Firefighters were quick on the scene and managed to control the flames which had engulfed sections of the truck and destroyed some of the hardware material.

Meanwhile, the policeman was assisted to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The constable's service pistol was damaged by fire in the incident.

Further investigations are ongoing by the St Ann traffic department. A Loop Jamaica reader shared an amateur video of the accident scene on Tuesday morning.
