SPF Weekend kicked off the Emanci-pendence holiday season with high praises at the I-Rise reggae concert on Thursday, Emancipation Day.

Sponsored by Tastee and Digicel, patrons came out with enthusiasm to the unique venue at Kaya Herb House to enjoy the jugglings of DJ Yaadcore and DJ Stamma.

Throughout the day, the star-studded line-up attracted hundreds of attendees, locals and tourists alike, who were seen grooving to musical renditions and conscious lyrics from Di Ruption, The No-Maddz, Feluke and Jamila Falak. Bringing his West African energy to Jamaica for the first time was international sensation, Afro B, who had the crowd rocking to some of his hits including ‘Joanna’ and his recent collaboration entitled ‘Shape Nice’.

Reggae group No-Maddz was among the entertainment package.

Headlining the show was the highly anticipated Jesse Royal, representing for the Lion Order. Burning up the scene, his performance left patrons revelling in the vibes and longing for more as he took the crowd back with some of his older hits including ‘Modern Day Judas’. We also witnessed the rise of Skorcha, son of famed reggae artiste Sizzla Kalonji, and learnt that the apple most definitely did not fall far from the tree. This budding star captivated the crowd and proved that he is definitely an artiste to watch out for in 2020!

The Sharon and Marlon Burke-led Solid Agency team did what they do best, curating an epic musical experience. A second staging is in high demand based on the feedback from patrons, and of course, we look forward to being there.
