Cops charge soldier and wife held in massive ganja bust
The Narcotics Police have charged the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier and his wife who were held on Friday with over 600 pounds of marijuana at a premises in Portmore, St Catherine.
The soldier identified as Dwayne Stephenson and his wife Stacy Ann were charged for possession, dealing, taking steps to export, and using premises for drugs, conspiracy and possession of criminal property following a question and answer session with police in the presence of their attorney Peter Champagnie on Saturday
The two will remain in custody until Wednesday, police sources have told Loop News.
Reports are that between 12:15 a.m. and 4:15 a.m., narcotics detectives and officers from the St Catherine South Police Division conducted an operation at a premises in Greater Portmore, during which both compressed and loose ganja were reportedly found.
The ganja weighed a total of 651.8 pounds.
Cash totaling $265,000, along with a licensed firearm with ammunition and two motorcars were also seized.
The two are booked for the St Catherine Parish Court on Wednesday, May 16. They will remain in custody until then.
Attorney-at law Champagnie, following the question and answer session, told Loop News that he plans to vigorously pursue an application for bail for the two.
