Smart Destination 2018 to help tourism industry harness technology

Last July the Ministry of Tourism hosted a highly successful thought leadership event in Montego Bay under the banner Smart Destination Jamaica.

Smart Destination Jamaica was specifically tailored towards showing how technology can transform the hospitality sector. Over 300 delegates attended the event and feedback from the delegates was "we need more technology-based events".

The Tourism Linkages Council is delighted to announce that following the success of Smart Destination 2017, we will be hosting Smart Destination 2018. Based on feedback and from discussions with key members of the hospitality sector, Smart Destination 2018 will be staged in a workshop format, specifically targeting the SMTE (Small to Medium Sized Tourism Enterprise).

The workshop will be more intimate and will allow the hosts more time to interact with delegates and to help them to understand which of the challenges being faced by the SMTE sector could be solved through the use of advanced technology. Participants will also learn about creative ways to finance their ICT investments.

Key partners for Smart Destination 2018 are the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), Digicel, Exim Bank, HPE and Avaya.  The selected technology partners are already trusted vendors within our sector and each will lead a workshop specific to key industry challenges.

We have identify a few significant challenges:

- Improving guest experience through innovative technology to create more loyal customers

- Harnessing customer data to deliver on your guests' expectations

- Choosing the right solution to deliver results that improve your bottom line

- Effective means of financing technological investment

Smart Destination 2018 is a one-day event and will be hosted at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Friday, May 11. This is a Ministry of Tourism-funded event with support from trusted partners, so there is no charge for delegates to attend.
