Six guns, including high-powered rifles, seized within 24 hours – police

The police say they had a very good 24-hour period seizing illegal firearms earlier this week, with a total of six guns, including two high-powered rifles, along with a number of rounds of ammunition, being pulled from circulation.
The high-powered weapons, an AK-47 assault rifle and an M16 assault rifle, were seized in Falmouth, Trelawny during an operation in the parish at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
A Beretta 9mm pistol and 59 assorted rounds of ammunition were also seized in the operation, which saw a man and a woman being taken into custody in connection with the seizures. Their identities have been withheld, pending further investigation.
Earlier, at about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, a Beretta 9mm pistol was seized after it was found covered by stones in a yard. The seizure reportedly occurred during a joint police/military operation in Granville, St James.
No one was arrested for that seizure.
Also on Monday, officers attached to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime (C-TOC) Investigation Branch seized a Heckler and Koch 9mm pistol along with nine 9mm rounds of ammunition on Waltham Park Road in St Andrew. The weapon was reportedly seized about 1:30 p.m. in an abandoned building.
No one was arrested in relation to the seizure.
About 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, the St James police made another seizure.
A team responded to reports of a man being seen with a firearm at Tucker district in the parish, and on their arrival, a 51-year-old security guard was arrested in connection with the seizure of a revolver.
The suspect’s identity is being withheld, pending further investigation.
