Six guns, including AK-47 assault rifle, seized since Friday

An AK-47 assault rifle is among six guns that were seized by the police during security forces’ operations since Friday, May 17.
The seizures occurred in a number of police divisions, and also included a combined 47 rounds of ammunition.
The assault rifle was seized in the St Andrew South Police Division at about 12:40 p.m. on Friday during a joint police/military operation at Ashoka Road in Kingston 11.
A premises was searched and the rifle with a magazine containing nineteen 7.62 mm rounds of ammunition was found in an abandoned building.
No one was arrested in relation to the seizure, but the Hunts Bay police are continuing to pursue leads in relation to the find.
Investigators at Hunts Bay are also probing the circumstances surrounding the seizure of a 9mm pistol on 33 Lane, Kingston 13 at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday. A man who was arrested in connection with the seizure remains in custody while arrangements are being made for him to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney.
Friday also saw firearm seizures in the Kingston Eastern and the St Andrew North police divisions. In Kingston Eastern, about 4:15 p.m., a premises on D’Aguilar Road, Kingston 2 was searched and a black Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing twelve 9mm cartridges was found inside. A man was arrested, however, his identity is being withheld as investigators continue their probe.
In St Andrew North, the seizure of two firearms and several rounds of ammunition on Constant Spring Road, St Andrew at about 11:00 p.m. was accompanied by the nabbing of four alleged robbers.
According to reports from the Constant Spring police, a police team was on patrol in the area when they got information about a robbery in progress in Russell Heights in the parish. A Toyota Probox motorcar fitting the description of the getaway car was intercepted and the vehicle and its occupants were searched. A Browning 9mm pistol, along with a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges, and a Sig Sauer P226 pistol fitted with a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges, were found during the search.
The identities of the men who were subsequently taken into custody are being withheld pending further investigations.
The Manchester Division produced the most recent seizure on Caledonia Road in Mandeville in the parish on Saturday. Reports are that about 4:00 a.m., a team of police officers was on an operation in the area when they searched a Toyota Corolla motorcar and found the firearm – a black and grey 9mm pistol.
Four men and two women were taken into custody in relation to the seizure.
