Shortwood, Liguanea on top in Magnum KSAFA Major League

Shortwood United FC and Liguanea United FC, which both secured a winning result in weekend action, lead the respective Zone A and Zone B of the Magnum KSAFA Major League, as they continue their push for a spot in next season’s premier Corporate Area competition, the Super League.

In the Zone A top-of-the-table clash, Shortwood United edged previous leaders and home team, Police National, 2-1 with goals from Ty Ketty and Malik Morris to leapfrog their opponents and move to 17 points. Kemar Newman scored for Police National, which have now fallen to third, on 16 points, but with an inferior goal difference to second-place Seaview Gardens, which also have 16 points.

Seaview Gardens FC were also involved in Sunday’s fixtures and took all three points off fifth-place Cooreville Gardens by notching a 3-2 victory. Akeem Peterson, Patrick Richards and the reliable Zenard Newman netted for Seaview Gardens, while Omari Pryce and Lloyd Brown scored for Cooreville Gardens, which remained fifth on nine points.

There were three Zone B matches and Liguanea United stretched their advantage by hammering New Kingston 5-1. Mitchily Waul, who formerly represented Harbour View and Tivoli Gardens in the Premier League, continues to lead his team from all angles as head coach, by scoring a double for Liguanea FC. Tevin Brown, Romaine Rallyns and Romaine Kennedy were the other goalscorers for the winners. New Kingston, in the meantime, stayed fifth on 11 points.

Bull Bay, the second-place team in Zone B with 17 points, never played at the weekend and Greenwich Town used the opportunity to get closer in third with a 3-0 victory over bottom-place Swallowfield.

Ramoune Fisher was Greenwich Town’s hero, scoring a hat-trick that pushed his team to their fourth win this season and 15 points. Swallowfield, once a top team in the country while Mark Mendel held the reins near 1990, stayed on three points.

One point ahead of Swallowfield are Allman/Woodford, which were blanked 2-0 by August Town FC, which lie fourth on 13 points. Theodore Thomas and Leon Lobban netted the goals.

Action continues this weekend with the resumption of the Magnum JN KSAFA League, whose matches will be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; and the Magnum KSAFA Major League, with matches on Saturday and Sunday.
