Several roads to be closed in downtown Kingston for Digicel 5K

The police are advising the public that in order to facilitate the staging of the annual Digicel Foundation 5K Night Run & Walk on Saturday, October 5, several road closures will be instituted in the downtown Kingston area, beginning at 6.30 pm.

Personnel from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch will be deployed to assist with the flow of traffic and to give general guidance, and the public is being urged to comply with their instructions.

The roads to be affected are:

Marcus Garvey Drive/ Industrial Terrace

All buses (including JUTC buses) and other vehicles traveling easterly along Marcus Garvey Drive will enter downtown Kingston using Industrial Terrace/Spanish Town Road via Darling Street, Pechon Street, onto Tower Street, then onto Orange Street where passengers will disembark. Buses will exit the parade area via West Queen Street/West Parade.

Pechon Street/ Water Lane

Pechon Street, at the intersection of Water Lane, will be closed to vehicular traffic. Vehicles

traveling from the market district wishing to use Harbour Street will be diverted along Tower

Street to access Orange Street into the parade area.

 

Water Lane / Harbour Street

Water Lane, Harbour Street and all off roads will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event.

Provisions will be made for the residents of Ocean Towers to enter and exit their homes.

 

King Street

King Street, between Harbour Street and South Parade, and all roads that intersect with King

Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.

 

KING STREET / SOUTH PARADE

South Parade at the intersection with King Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic.

 

East Queen Street/ East Parade  

JUTC buses and other vehicles travelling along East Queen Street intending to use the Parade area

will be diverted along Duke Street where they will use Charles Street and King Street to access

North Parade. JUTC buses will use King Street and sections of North Parade to set down and take

up passengers.

 

Church Street

Church Street between East Parade and Ocean Boulevard and all roads that intersect with Church

Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event.

 

Ocean Boulevard

Ocean Boulevard and all roads leading on will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event.

 

Michael Manley Boulevard/Paradise Street

All buses (including JUTC buses) and other vehicles traveling westerly, including those from the

Norman Manley International Airport will be diverted onto Paradise Street to access Windward

Road, Victoria Avenue and East Queen Street, where they will have options. Vehicles traveling

south on Paradise Street will be required to make a left onto Michael Manley Boulevard.

 

Michael Manley Boulevard / Port Royal Street

Michael Manley Boulevard from Paradise Street along Port Royal Street to the intersection of

Newport East will be closed to all vehicular traffic for the duration of the event.

 

 

Lower Camp Road/ Tower Street

Lower Camp Road, at the intersection of Tower Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic.

In addition to the road closures, persons participating in the event are being advised that parking has been allocated at several parking lots in the downtown Kingston area. These are as follows:

1. Bank of Jamaica

2. Scotia Bank - East Lot only

3. UDC Lot 20 – Ministry of Foreign Affairs HQ

4. Myers, Fletcher’s & Gordon- Lot A

5. Myers, Fletcher’s & Gordon- Lot B

6. Kingston Craft Market

7. Old Fisheries Complex

8. Downtown Transport Centre

VIPs will park at the UDC West Street Car Park and the UDC Harbour Street Car Park.
