Seeking My Dream wins Diamond Mile
Seeking My Dream proved himself the best miler in Jamaica by romping the $13.9 million Diamond Mile, powering home by five lengths to equal the stakes record, 1:36.2, he set in last year's inaugural race.
Partnered by leading jockey Omar Walker for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, the five-year-old chestnut colt raced fifth off the early splits being set by speedy Buzz Nightmare and his stablemate, Campesino, both being tracked by Jamai Raja.
Eased into fourth at the half-mile, Seeking My Dream went in chase of Buzz Nightmare being pressed by Campesino and Jamai Raja. Campesino weakened two-and-a-half furlongs out and Walker sent Seeking My Dream after Buzzz Nightmare and Jamai Raja approaching the home turn.
Jamai Raja grabbed the lead entering the straight but was quickly pounced on by Seeking My Dream, who pulled alongside with a furlong-and-a-half to run.
Asked to explode by Walker, Seeking My Dream motored past Jamai Raja and opened up a commanding margin to give his owner, Member of Parliament Derrick Smith, another memorable win.
Apprentice Bebeto Harvey won three races to move within nine winners of Walker, whose only victory was aboard Seeking My Dream.
Panamanian Dick Cardenas and Dane Nelson rode two winners apiece on the big 14-race card.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
