The Caribbean’s leading resort hotel chain, Sandals Resorts International ( SRI) is the new sponsor of the West Indies cricket team.

A deal was struck which see Sandals sponsor the West Indies for the period 2018 to December 2020.

This includes all West Indies squads (Men and women) from under 15s to the senior teams.  The Sandals brand will now take pride of place on the West Indies kit, across stadiums both at home and abroad and will feature on broadcast sponsorship.

CEO Of Cricket West Indies Johnny Grave said : “ West Indies Cricket is the heartbeat of the Caribbean and we’re thrilled to partner with such a prestigious international brand as Sandals – which is also synonymous with promoting the best of the Caribbean to the world.”

The deal with Sandals follows the decision by Cricket West Indies to terminate its 13 -year sponsorship deal with telecoms company Digicel, with a year on the agreement remaining.

Speaking with Loop News earlier today, Founder and Chairman of Sandals, Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart said: “ We are very happy with our decision to sponsor the West Indies cricket team. For generations, West Indies cricket has been the premier ambassador for the Caribbean, doing our people proud.

“ West Indies took the game to another level in the 70s, 80s, 90s and for the early part of the 21st century, being the undisputed champions of international cricket.

“ Sandals wants to part of the re-emergence of the West Indies Cricket Team and we are going to do our very best for the team and the entire organization and see to it that they get the best attention and what they deserve.

“ More importantly we are an indigenous company based and operating in the Caribbean, staffed  predominantly at every level  by people of the region, and it is important that Caribbean cricket is sponsored and supported by a Caribbean organization.

“ We sponsored the tour to England in 1995, 2000, and 2004 and we are delighted to be back on board. We absolutely love the West Indies Cricket Team and can’t wait to see a return to the glory days.”

Stewart, one of the Caribbean foremost business leaders who turned Sandals into one of the world’s most recognized brands added that it was heartening to see the West Indies triumph at Lord’s in London  against the ICC World XI and that it bodes well for Sri Lanka’s tour of the Caribbean in the coming weeks.
