Industry Minister Karl Samuda has commended Caribbean Cement Company for the work it has done in ensuring the safety of its workers and protecting the environment.

"Carib Cement is real industry, there is no ifs and buts and maybes about it. I am very happy to see what is taking place," Samuda said during a tour of the cement manufacturing facility on Wednesday.

He added, "I am very happy to see the way in which the environment has improved... It's no longer a dust bowl... (and the) emphasis to keep their workers and visitors safe is commendable."

The tour saw Samuda and his team from the ministry being hosted by the General Manager of Carib Cement, Peter Donkersloot, and his team. The visit consisted of a tour of the Kiln 5 (major equipment in the manufacturing process), Central Control Room (the operational brain of the plant), the Cement Mill #5 (main equipment for producing cement) and the Cement Packaging Area (where cement is packed, stored and distributed to customers).

Carib Cement used the platform to showcase the investments being made across the plant to improve efficiency, increase production output and become more customer centric.
