Sadness after 73-year-old pedal cyclist struck and killed in Portmore

Medical officers attend to the body of the elderly man who was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Portmore on Monday morning.

A senior citizen died after being knocked off his bicycle in Portmore, St Catherine on Monday morning.

He has been identified as 73-year-old Owen Gordon.

Reports are that the elderly man was riding his bicycle along the Braeton main road about 7:30am when he was hit by a Toyota Corolla car.

He died at the scene.

Relatives and friends of the deceased wept openly as medical officers pronounced the man dead.  Others who had gathered at the scene expressed sadness over the man's untimely death.
