RSPL: Portmore United beat Humble Lion to move 9 points clear

Portmore United have stretched their lead at the top of the 2017-2018 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), after they bounced back from a shock 2-1 defeat against Harbour View to beat Humble Lion 2-0 on Wednesday at Spanish Town Prison Oval.

The victory pushes Portmore United to 44 points from 21 matches and a nine-point lead over defending champions Arnett Gardens, which will be in action on Thursday.

Humble Lion remain in ninth place on 24 points, eight points above the relegation zone.

Ricardo Morris (8th minute) and the competition's leading striker Javan East (44th minute) scored the goals for Portmore United.

In the day's other matches, Waterhouse - courtesy of an 11-minute strike from Andre Leslie - beat Sandals South Coast 1-0 at the Barbican field to move from seventh place to sixth with 28 points; while Boys' Town and Montego Bay United battled to a goalless draw at the Barbican Complex.

The draw hardly benefit Boys' Town and Montego Bay United.

Boys' Town, which are in last-place,  remain in the relegation zone on 13 points; three behind Sandals South coast, the other team in the relegation zone.

Montego Bay United, 10th-place, improved to 23 points, just seven points above the relegation zone.
