RSPL: Arnett, Harbour View in big clash as second round kicks off

Leaders Arnett Gardens and Harbour View will face off in the feature match at the Harbour View Stadium as the 2017-2018 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) continues on Sunday, with the first set of matches in the second round.

The Arnett Gardens, Harbour View clash is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 pm and is one of two late games on the day.

Five games will take place on the day, with promoted team Cavalier and Portmore United meeting in the Monday night fixture, at the Stadium East field.

The feature game is expected to be competitive despite the gap between teams on the points' table.

Arnett Gardens, the reigning champions, enter the day with a two-point lead atop the 12-team table, while Harbour View are in seventh place on 13 points, six clear of the relegation zone.

Harbour View are coming off a defeat as on Thursday the 'Stars of the East' suffered a 1-0 loss at home against Portmore United, while Arnett Gardens dropped two points against Cavalier in an away fixture.

That game against Cavalier showed that Arnett Gardens will be very tough to beat this season as they had to come from two goals down to earn a point, which protected their status as the only unbeaten team in the league.

The point gained on Thursday moved Arnett Gardens to 23 points, a 10-point advantage over Harbour View, but despite that big gap, the usual close game between the teams is expected. When the teams met in the first round, Arnett Gardens came out on top with a 2-1 victory.

The statistics between the teams are in favour of Arnett Gardens, which have rammed in 21 goals from their 11 matches in the first round while conceding eight.

Harbour View, coached by former national player, Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner, have found goalscoring very tough this season. From 11 games in the first round, Harbour View have found the back of the net only seven times, while letting in six, and this trend should be of concern to the coaching staff.

Elsewhere, Tivoli Gardens and University of the West Indies (UWI) FC could move ahead of second-place Portmore United for at least 24 hours.

Both Tivoli and UWI are locked on 19 points, two behind Portmore United, and they will be hunting the full three points.

UWI FC, which are in third-place courtesy of a better goal difference, will visit the Drewsland Stadium to face 10th-place Waterhouse, a team that is two points above the relegation zone. That match is set to start at 6:30 pm.

Fourth-place Tivoli Gardens also have an away assignment. They will face eight-place Montego Bay United, the other late game at 7:00 pm.
