‘Robbery attempt’ foiled in Negril; suspects held, gun, ammo seized
Two men are now behind bars following the seizure of a 9mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition after what has been described as a foiled robbery attempt on the Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril, Westmoreland on Wednesday, August 12.
Reports from the Negril police are that about 9.20 am, a man was driving a motorcar along the roadway when two men on a motorcycle, one armed with a gun, allegedly attempted to pull off a robbery.
With the gun pointed at him, the car driver, in a seeming fit of panic, reportedly lost control of the car, which collided with the men on the motorcycle, resulting in both vehicles crashing into a nearby premises.
A report was subsequently made to the police by the driver of the motorcar.
Moments later, one of the alleged assailants turned up at the station to make a report, and was arrested.
In a follow-up investigation, the police went to the scene of the crash, where the other alleged robber was found lying along the roadway with the firearm and ammunition in his hand.
He was taken to a hospital and placed under police guard.
The investigation continues into the incident.
