Fire brigade units and crews busy responding to the latest blaze at the Riverton City waste disposal site in St Andrew on Sunday.

Another fire is raging at the Riverton City waste disposal site in St Andrew.

Indications from the authorities are that it is suspected that the fire was deliberately set.

The latest waste disposal site blaze follows closely on the heels of a major fire at the Retirement facility in St James just over a week ago.

The fires cost significant sums of money to be extinguished, and present environmental challenges for the neighbouring communities from issues like excessive smoke inhalation.

On Sunday afternoon, trucks with solid waste destined for the Riverton site had to be turned away, as the fire brigade and other teams worked to bring the blaze under control.

From a distant, Loop News got some pictures of the development and the activities to bring the blaze under control, which are in the gallery below.
