The first night of Rebel Salute 2020 brought together some of the top names in reggae music on a smoothly run schedule to entertain the thousands that gathered on the vast Grizzly's Plantation Cove property in St Ann.
For most of the night, the patrons sat and enjoyed the performances of the various artistes before Sanchez lifted them to their feet with his melodic set of hits.
Singing Melody and Chi Ching Ching also swayed the patrons with their performances, as they enticed them into singing and dancing to the vibes of the sounds emitting their vocal cords, while comedian Christopher 'Johnny' Daley had them laughing during the new comedy hour feature.

While Sanchez was the toast, top-notch performances emanated from the voices, sounds and movements of Toots and the Maytals, Steel Pulse, Flourgon, Lone Ranger, Papa Michigan, Heavy Weight Rockaz, Terry Linen and Leroy Sibbles.
The organisers kept a tight rein on the artistes and the management of the stage, ensuring that the event was on schedule for most of the night, unlike previous years when the show ended way beyond the scheduled time.
The artistes kept the temperature high, despite the heavy cool breeze that blew throughout the night and caused some challenges with the sound of the wind echoing through the microphone during some of the performances.
Chi Ching Ching had the audience members on their feet during his energetic set.
It was one of the obstacles that Sanchez had to battle through while performing, with another being a microphone that he said made him sound like "mi have flu" which he was forced to replace.
Sanchez, however, managed to belt out 'Praise Him', 'Take These Chains', 'Brown Eyes', 'Pass The Kutchie', 'Chronic' and 'Pretty Girl' with the audience rocking and singing to the cover ballads, 'I Can't Wait', 'You're Not Alone' and 'Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone'. He ended his performance by calling Flourgon, who had performed earlier, back on stage and they did 'Mi Love Me Girl Bad'. Flourgon in turn called on Daddy Lizard to perform 'Run Gal Run'.
Singing Melody worked his audience well as he delivered, like Sanchez, a combination of originals and covers including 'Say What', 'Want You Back' and 'Shower Me With Your Love'.

Terry Linen overstayed his scheduled time on stage, but the performance was well-received, especially the gospel song 'No Longer A Slave' as well as his version of Garnet Silk's 'Splashing Dashing'.
With the morning sun casting shadows on the venue, Chi Ching Ching and his dancers delivered an energetic performance, a highlight of which was when he left the stage, scaled the fencing and entered the regular section of the audience to teach a male patron how to 'Rock Di World.
While the internationally renowned Toots and Steel Pulse didn't ignite dancing and screams, they kept an appreciative audience captive with professional sets that featured their extensive catalogues.
