Reprisal shootings taking a toll on May Pen, says Mike Henry

Obviously fed up with marauding tit-for-tat gun violence on the ground in sections of May Pen over recent times, Central Clarendon Member of Parliament (MP), Mike Henry, on Thursday called for the security forces to be brought in on a wholesale basis to quell the protracted gang violence in sections of the town.

Henry, who was heading off to China on Government business, reported that the shooting of one individual in the town on Wednesday had triggered reprisal shootings, leading to numerous deadly skirmishes being played out in a number of areas.

The execution-style killing of Easton Gardner, otherwise called ‘Yellow’, of Threadlight district on Wednesday, has reportedly triggered the latest round of bloodletting in the town.

Since then, at least one resident has fallen victim of a gun attack. The police reported that a resident of Sevens Road in the Farm community was attacked and shot several times by a lone gunman, and is now battling for life in hospital.

While Henry expressed concern about a wider scale of violence, the local police said they were probing to determine if the two incidents on their radar are connected.

But for Henry, it is simply a matter of enough is enough, with him declaring that “it is more than time enough to put this problem to rest through strong action to bring back peace and calm to the general community.”

He said he intended to correspond with National Security Minister, Dr Horace Chang, to hopefully “get some consideration going towards the formulation of the necessary security arrangements to bring the problem of gang conflicts in these area under control.”

While Henry spoke with obvious concern, the police were issuing the names of some nine individuals from the often volatile Farm and Effortville communities who were being called in as persons of interest. They are:

* Leon Blackstock

* Jerome Whyte, otherwise called ‘Labba’

* Zemar Nelson, otherwise called ‘Dillen’

* Everton Nelson, otherwise called ‘Eva’

* Andrew Robinson, otherwise called ‘Bredda Dog’

* Omar Wright, otherwise called ‘Foxy’

* Kenrick Scott, otherwise called ‘Mad Max’

* Leon Rose, otherwise called ‘Hitler’

* Claudius Bryan, otherwise called ‘Brains’

Alongside their listing were the names another six men from other sections of the parish were also listed as persons of interest, with all being urged to urgently visit the May Pen Police Station.
