Reggae Girlz secure second victory in CWC Qualifying

Jamaica secured a 4-0 victory over Bermuda on Monday to make it two wins from two games in the final round of the Caribbean Zone of Concacaf Women’s Championship (CWC) Qualifying at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Trudi Carter put the Reggae Girlz in control with a goal in the 17th minute and Konya Plummer made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

Hungry for more, Jamaica extended the lead to three through Khadija Shaw in the 61st minute. For Shaw, it was her 12th goal in all rounds of CWC Qualifying.

Giselle Washington put a bow on things in the 90+1 minute to help send the home fans happy with another triumph, following the 9-0 whipping of  Antigua and Barbuda on the opening day of competition on Saturday.

Earlier, Cuba crushed Antigua and Barbuda 7-0 in which three players bagged a brace.

Maria Isabel Perez Torres kicked off the scoring in the eighth minute and soon the lead was doubled by Lilian Perez Sandoval in the 25th minute. Perez Torres found her second in the 56th minute and then eight minutes later in the 64th minute it was Perez Sandoval scoring her second.

Rachel Pelaez Ellis joined in on the scoring in the 67th and 78th minute before Dianelis Carbonell Lastre rounded out the 7-0 scoreline with a goal in the 90+1 minute.

Qualifying in the Caribbean Zone final round continues on Wednesday when Trinidad and Tobago face off against Antigua and Barbuda, while Cuba will tangle with Bermuda.

The top three finishers will automatically qualify for the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship scheduled for USA October 4-17, 2018. 

The Concacaf Women´s Championship 2018 CWC will determine the three Concacaf teams to the Confederation that automatically qualify for next summer’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, while the fourth-place team will play a playoff against Argentina, third place finisher from Conmebol in a World Cup playoff.
