Reggae Boyz beaten again
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz were defeated 1-0 by Costa Rica at in their friendly international at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica on Tuesday night.
Keysher Fuller scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute, a strike that handed the Reggae Boyz their second defeat in three days. The Boyz suffered a 2-0 defeat against El Salvador in San Salvador on Saturday and as a result, they were eliminated from the inaugural Concacaf Nations League elite Group A.
On Tuesday, with the Reggae Boyz making a number of changes to the starting that from the El Salvador match, Costa Rica controlled the early action in the match, as they kept possession of the ball inside the Jamaicans half of the pitch.
The Costa Ricans were, however, aided by the Reggae Boyz, who played deep into their defensive third and allowed the hosts to come at them.
Ironically, the goal came after the Jamaicans had ventured into the Costa Ricans half of the pitch in a rare attacking move and lost possession which led to a quick counter-attack.
From the middle of the field, the ball was played wide to the right. Defender Ladale Richie fumbled a clearance and the ball went to Fuller to race uncontested to goal and shoot through the legs of goalkeeper Amal Knight, from inside the 18-yard box.
Minutes later, Knight had to react quickly to tip a shot over the crossbar after a corner was redirected by Kendall Watson from the fringes of the six-yard box, directly in front of the goal as the teams entered the half-time break with Costa Rica leading by the single goal.
The Reggae Boyz played a better second half, pinning their opponents inside their half, especially after coach Theodore Whitmore started making changes. The Reggae Boyz, however, failed to create any clear-cut opportunities.
