Radical holds off 8-5 favourite Sotomayor over a mile

RADICAL on Wednesday completed back-to-back wins at Caymanas Park, streaking to the lead with veteran jockey Gary Richards off the home turn in the seventh event at a mile, leaving 8-5 favourite SOTOMAYOR and 9-5 second choice TIMEFORARMS battling for second place.

The grey gelding won at odds of 5-2 with Richards, who was also aboard the four-year-old when he won on Sunday, April 15.

Racing fifth from his outside draw as SOTOMAYOR, UNCLE VINNIE and DILIGENT disputed the lead, RADICAL circled the field three furlongs out to win in 1:40.1.

Meanwhile, Anthony Nunes extended his lead over defending 17-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta by winning two events on the 10-race card.

Nunes, who started the day leading DaCosta by $1m in the trainers' title race, landed the sixth and eighth races with APOLLO BAY and METICULOUS, respectively.

Cardenas, who won aboard METICULOUS, was the day's leading rider, opening his account with Richard Azan's AXLE ROD in the fifth.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
