QUICK RESPONSE: Double murder persons of interest turn themselves in
Two persons of interest are now in custody for questioning in connection with the murders of two male members of a Hanover family who were shot and killed in their community early on Wednesday morning.
The persons of interest turned themselves in to the Hanover police in the presence of their attorneys.
The dead men, both of Cold Spring in the parish, have been identified as 53-year-old shopkeeper Kenneth Heman and his 52-year-old, nephew, Frank Birch, a mason.
Reports are that about 2:00 a.m., Heman and his nephew were heading home when there were pounced upon and shot by gunmen.
Heman had reportedly gone to take home Birch after the latter, in a drunken state, was said to have gotten into a heated argument with a group of men outside a business place.
Upon the arrival of the police at the scene of the shooting after being summoned by residents, Heman and Birch were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were transported to hospital, where they were both pronounced dead.
Investigators later indicated the two persons of interest were being sought for questioning in relation to the killings.
