Purity up 29% to lead JSE gains

Consolidated Bakeries (Purity) and GWest led gains on Friday's trading of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).

Purity gained 29 per cent to close at $1.80 followed by GWest, up 15 per cent to close at $3.30. 

Brokers also executed a block trade in Jamaica Stock Exchange Group with 15 million units trading hands or about $105 million worth of shares. The stock declined by 3.4 per cent to $7.05. 

The day's big losers were CAC2000, down 18 per cent to close at $5.28; Main Event, down 12 per cent to close at $5.28, and Lasco Financial, down 11.4 per cent to $4.59.

The JSE Combined Index advanced by 3,276.19 points to close at 288,671.77. The JSE Index advanced by 4,121.16 points to close at 281,979.52. The JSE All Jamaican Composite Index advanced by 4,523.22 points  to close at 309,489.06. The JSE Select Index advanced by 145.66 points to close at 8,405.74.

The Junior Market Index declined by 45.82 points to close at 2,694.81. The JSE USD Equities Index advanced by 4.67 points to close at 173.89.

Overall Market activity resulted from trading in 42 stocks of which 23 advanced, 15 declined and four traded firm.

Market volume amounted to 27,686,501 units valued at over $225.3 million. Jamaica Stock Exchange was the volume leader with 15,007,575 units (54.21 per cent) followed by Jamaican Teas Limited with 7,932,754 units (28.65 per cent) and Mayberry Investments Limited with 852,137 units (3.08 per cent).
