PSOJ announces winners of public sector corporate governance award

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 issued six awards under its Public Sector Corporate Governance Initiative.

Approximately 184 Public Bodies had one year to qualify for the coveted PSCG award; which incentivizes Public Bodies that demonstrate exemplary service and compliance to the Public Bodies Management and Accountability Act (PBMAA) and the Corporate Governance Framework for Public Bodies (CGF) during the 2016/17 Financial Year.  

The selection of category winners, as well as the overall winner was determined by an adjudicating panel comprised of persons from the private citizens, public officers, academia and members from the public.

Mrs. Therese Turner-Jones, General Manager, Caribbean Country Department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) was the main speaker. Minister of  State in the Ministry of Finance and Public Service,  Mrs. Fayval Williams, brought remarks; Opposition Spokesperson on Finance the Hon. Mark Golding also commended the PSOJ on its inaugural event. Mr. Dennis Cohen, Vice President of the PSOJ brought welcome and placed context to the event.

In 2018, the PSOJ commits to working with the Public Sector to: increase knowledge sharing; actively contribute to the fight against corruption nationally; propose adequate mechanisms to improve efficiencies in both productivity sectors (Public & Private).

Recipients of the Awards are as follows:

  1. Board Composition, Function and Structure Award - National Health Found
    1. 1st Runner Up- Jamaica Mortgage Bank
  2. Best Annual Report (Special award) – Development Bank of Jamaica
    1. 1st Runner Up – National Health Fund
  3. Corporate Governance Policies, Procedures and Practices Award - Jamaica Deposit Insurance Corporation
  4. 1s Runner Up – National Health Fund
  5. Compliance and Disclosure of Information Award  - Development Bank of Jamaica
    1. 1st Runner Up – Jamaica Deposit Insurance Corporation
  6. Risk Measurement and Internal Controls Award – Development Bank of Jamaica
    1. 1st Runner Up – National Health Fund
  7.  Overall Public Sector Award for Excellence – National Health Fund

The Public Sector Corporate Governance Awards is expected to be an annual event.
